Signs Symptoms Of Fibromyalgia

If you have heard about the medical condition called fibromyalgia, and you are suspecting that you – or someone you know – might have the disorder, be careful about diagnosing the symptoms. The signs and symptoms of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) commonly overlap with other disorders such as depression and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Unlike other diseases wherein the source of the pain can be visible, these disorders will not manifest outside the body: the pain seems to have no cause at all.

The most common signs and symptoms of fibromyalgia, however, is the presence of excruciating pain that a rather negligible stimulus like a brush with the curtain can bring about. In fact, some fibromyalgia patients even find the sensation of clothing to their skin painful enough. The pain can manifest in both sides of the body, especially in the tender points of the human body.

If your whole body feels sore because of FMS, your tender points located on the back of your head, the sides of your breast bone, shoulders, upper back, hips, knees, and elbows can be excruciatingly painful when pressed even very slightly. You cannot observe any swelling or bruises; the area looks perfectly normal except from the persistent pain.

Another signs and symptoms of fibromyalgia is fatigue from lack of sleep. Fibromyalgia sufferers could not get deeper levels of sleep, or the non-REM sleep, because of the disomfort. The non-REM stage of sleep is important because it is in this stage where the body restores the normal levels of body chemistry and performs some natural healing process. If a person could not get enough sleep in this stage, he will wake up feeling fatigue and worse than not sleeping at all. Fibromyalgia patients also manifest abnormal patterns of sleep even when the pain is absent.

A fibromyalgia sufferer may also feel a couple or all of the following:

- Nausea
- Headache
- Memory loss
- Vision problems
- Depression
- Numbness
- Tingling sensation of the different parts of the body

The signs and symptoms of fibromyalgia above are only meant to guide you in discovering what might be causing your body pains. It is not meant to diagnose you with finality about the disorder. You must still visit an informed physician to give definite diagnoses about your symptoms.
