Can You Get Disabilty With Fibromyalgia

With increasing cases of fibromyalgia, owing perhaps to the established diagnostic procedure of the disease, the Social Security is now looking into the disease as a genuine medical condition that calls for attention. So, can you get disability with fibromyalgia? Although not resounding, the answer is yes.

The Social Security has a list of known diseases and defects that automatically get a Social Security Disability Insurance; unfortunately, fibromyalgia is not on that list. There's a lot to be done about fibromyalgia. The diagnosis has a lot of room to improve, and the treatment is far from satisfactory also. Moreover, some doctors are still reluctant to pronounce fibromyalgia as a disabling medical condition. That's why the Social Security is refusing to grant insurance for this disease easily.

Can you get disability with fibromyalgia? Your success depends on the severity of your symptoms, proper diagnosis and symptoms documentation, and the competency of your lawyer.

To help the judge grant you a cover, you must prove it to him or her that your ability to perform, let alone be productive, in a workplace is hampered by your fibromyalgia. You must prove that you cannot perform the simplest task like sitting for 8 hours a day to do simple office work. If he believes that you can still perform minor task in a workplace setting with the help of medication, then he will not grant you your claim.

But how can you do this fibromyalgia? First, get a diagnosis from a reputable physician trained to distinguish the disease. Get the doctor to document your symptoms and find out if indeed there are no way you can be productive. The diagnosis and treatment period may last for several months before your doctor can support you with your claim. Be patient about it. Once your doctor says you can't perform minor tasks in the workplace, it's the time to file your disability claim.

Focus on your other symptoms besides pain. For instance, if you feel muscle weakness with your fibromyalgia, you could reason that the simplest task like typing is beyond your body's capacity to perform productively. Or, if you are severely depressed due to your condition, you could persuade the judge that going to the office is a struggle for you. Believe it or not, a person could win disability because he or she has a very weak coping mechanism with anxiety and depression. And, a person could lose a claim even from arthritis pain because he or she has an unusually high pain threshold.

Although the question can you get disability with fibromyalgia can be answered positively, but the fight is difficult. You need all the help you can get, from your family, lawyer, and doctor to win your case.
